What is a Lunar Eclipse?
चंद्रग्रहण म्हणजे काय?

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, and the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon.
Lunar eclipse happens only on a Full Moon day.
जेव्हा पृथ्वी सूर्य आणि चंद्र यांच्या मध्ये येते आणि पृथ्वीची सावली चंद्रावर पडते, तेव्हा चंद्रग्रहण होते.
चंद्रग्रहण फक्त पौर्णिमेच्या दिवशी होते.

How Does a Lunar Eclipse Occur?
चंद्रग्रहण कसे होते?

Sun → Earth → Moon

When Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the Moon, the Moon appears dark or reddish.
पृथ्वी सूर्यप्रकाश चंद्रापर्यंत पोहोचू देत नाही, त्यामुळे चंद्र अंधुक किंवा तांबूस दिसतो.

Types of Lunar Eclipse
चंद्रग्रहणाचे प्रकार

1) Total Lunar Eclipse | पूर्ण चंद्रग्रहण

– The entire Moon enters Earth’s dark shadow (Umbra).
– Moon appears red (called Blood Moon).
– संपूर्ण चंद्र पृथ्वीच्या गडद सावलीत जातो.
– चंद्र तांबूस लाल दिसतो (ब्लड मून).

2) Partial Lunar Eclipse | आंशिक चंद्रग्रहण

– Only a part of the Moon is covered by Earth’s shadow.
– Some portion of the Moon appears dark.
– चंद्राचा काही भाग सावलीत जातो.
– चंद्राचा काही भाग काळसर दिसतो.

3) Penumbral Lunar Eclipse | उपछाया चंद्रग्रहण

– Moon passes through Earth’s outer shadow.
– Slight dimming of the Moon, difficult to notice.
– चंद्र पृथ्वीच्या हलक्या सावलीतून जातो.
– चंद्र थोडासा फिकट दिसतो, ओळखणे कठीण असते.

चंद्रग्रहण पाहणे सुरक्षित आहे का?

– Yes, it is completely safe to watch a lunar eclipse with naked eyes.
